Drew Barrymore served up a hilariously chaotic moment on her talk show Thursday when a segment featuring unique food combinations spiraled out of control. Joined by celebrity chef Jordan Andino and Top Chef star Gail Simmons, Barrymore tested a chocolate chip breakfast sandwich and edible ice cream perfume — with messy and cringe-worthy results.
The Chocolate Catastrophe
The chaos began when Barrymore took a bite of a gooey chocolate chip sandwich. The treat dripped chocolate down her chin, leaving her flustered as the audience roared with laughter.
“What the hell is happening to my face!?” she exclaimed, trying and failing to clean the mess. “By the way, I just wiped it, and I feel like that made it worse.”
Andino and Simmons were no better off, with Andino asking for napkins as chocolate and egg mixture covered his hands, and Simmons resorting to licking her fingers before suggesting towels. Barrymore confessed the sticky ordeal was “unbelievable” as Andino attempted to help clean her face. “It’s like, caked on there,” he remarked.
Barrymore didn’t hold back on her opinion of the sandwich, declaring, “This is a no from me, by the way, on this chocolate chip cookie thing.”
The Edible Perfume Experiment
Things escalated when the trio tried Salt & Straw’s edible ice cream perfumes, designed to be sprayed onto ice cream for added flavor. While Barrymore initially enjoyed the apple-like scent, she couldn’t resist spraying it directly into her mouth.
Her face instantly contorted as she recoiled from the unexpected taste. Grabbing a tissue, Barrymore covered her mouth while Andino exclaimed, “You went straight into your mouth!? Why would you do that!?”
Andino demonstrated the correct technique, spraying the perfume delicately over a spoon of ice cream before tasting it. Barrymore, still laughing, defended her impulse, crying, “They said it was edible!”
After trying the perfume properly, Barrymore admitted it was actually delightful. “The ice cream is incredible, and the spray, the perfume on the ice cream is wonderful,” she said.
Guilty Pleasure Turned Comedy Gold
Simmons, initially skeptical of the concept, acknowledged that the perfume was a pleasant addition — when used sparingly. “If you use it with restraint, I think there is a place for it,” she said, as the camera cut to Barrymore looking sheepishly amused.
The segment, equal parts comedy and culinary adventure, was classic Drew Barrymore: messy, unscripted, and irresistibly fun. Even when things go off the rails, Barrymore’s infectious humor keeps her audience laughing along with her.
