Winning a Golden Globe is an emotional moment for any TV creator — but it’s hard to keep your composure when Harrison Ford is in the room.
Shōgun co-creator Justin Marks experienced a fanboy moment on stage at the 2025 Golden Globes when his FX historical epic won Best Drama TV Series. Marks couldn’t resist shouting out the legendary actor sitting in the audience.
“They don’t tell you how insane this is,” Marks began in his speech. “And now here we are, and Han Solo is looking at us.”
The cameras immediately panned to an amused Ford, who smiled as the crowd laughed.
The Shōgun Miracle
Marks continued his speech by reflecting on the challenges of bringing the ambitious series to life.
“Nothing about this show has been expected, truly,” he said. “It was made on the backs of thousands of yeses we received over the years from our East meets West crew and our extraordinary cast standing here.”
Marks added a personal note about the chaos in his own household leading up to the ceremony: “It is a miracle that anyone still has their jobs. It is a miracle that we still have our marriage. And it is a miracle if we ever find that tortoise again.”
A Historic Night for Shōgun
Shōgun was the night’s biggest TV winner, continuing its awards season domination after sweeping the 2024 Emmys.
The series, based on James Clavell’s novel, stars Hiroyuki Sanada, Anna Sawai, and Tadanobu Asano, who all took home awards in their respective acting categories.
Sawai made history at the Emmys as the first Asian woman to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and her win at the Golden Globes further solidified her groundbreaking year.
Harrison Ford’s Golden Globes Nod
Ford, who was seated front and center during Marks’ speech, was nominated for Best Actor in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy for his role in Shrinking on Apple TV+. While he didn’t take home the trophy, he clearly enjoyed the night’s proceedings — and the playful shoutout from Marks.
The star of Star Wars and Indiana Jones has become a staple at awards ceremonies, and his presence added an extra layer of excitement to an already memorable night for the Shōgun team.
A Fanboy Moment for the Ages
Marks’ playful nod to Ford summed up the surreal nature of Hollywood success.
“It’s not every day you get to win an award and make Han Solo laugh,” he later told reporters backstage.
Indeed, the Shōgun team left the Beverly Hilton as the evening’s biggest winners — and with a story that will be told for years to come.
